Between-subject correlation of heart rate variability predicts movie preferences

چکیده
We introduce a novel and simple method for assessing audiences’ emotional responses to audiovisuals (e.g. films). Viewers ( N = 21) watched movies TV commercials from different genres while wearing photoplethysmography (PPG) optic sensors on their wrists. Heart rate variability (HRV) synchrony was observed among the audience. Based this between-subject measure, we identified emotionally arousing segments materials. New participants 24; 16) were then invited watch these along with some randomly selected as control; they reported that former more engaging (effect size w .67; .5). This finding confirmed in an online study larger cohort 300 ) . While specific effects varied depending movie genre or gender, HRV-based editing generally performed better than control. These findings suggest HRV can be used new tool audience psychology, potentially also automatically creating short trailers out of principled manner taking into account human perspective.

Inverse Correlation between Heart Rate Variability and Heart Rate Demonstrated by Linear and Nonlinear Analysis
The dynamical fluctuations in the rhythms of biological systems provide valuable information about the underlying functioning of these systems. During the past few decades analysis of cardiac function based on the heart rate variability (HRV; variation in R wave to R wave intervals) has attracted great attention, resulting in more than 17000-publications (PubMed list). However, it is still cont...

Abstract Many studies have been conducted on heart rate variability. Variability in the heart signal of two sequential beats is called heart rate variability (HRV). Short- and long- term variability reflects autonomic nervous system function, so that increased or decreased heart rate variability (HRV) is an indicator of human health. So, the analysis of these changes can predict sudden death...

متن کاملHeart Rate Variability Predicts Treatment Outcome in Major Depression
Aims: Autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysregulation is associated with various symptoms of depressive disorder. The beat-to-beat pattern of heart rate (Heart Rate Variability) (HRV) provides a noninvasive portal to ANS function through the quantification of periodic heart rate patterns. In this study we quantified two components of HRV: Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA), and Low Frequency HRV (...
متن کاملHeart rate variability predicts severe hypotension after spinal anesthesia.
BACKGROUND Hypotension due to vasodilatation after spinal anesthesia (SA) may be harmful. Heart rate variability, an indirect measure of autonomic control, may predict hypotension. METHODS One hundred patients were studied. Retrospectively, heart rate variability was analyzed in 30 patients, classified depending on the lowest systolic blood pressure (SBP) after SA. Seventy patients were studi...
